A LOT to Cover
SIOP (Société Internationale d'Oncologie Pédiatrique)
Carly Bergstein (B+ Exec. Dir.) and I had the pleasure of attending the SIOP Conference last week in San Antonio. SIOP is the largest, international gathering on childhood cancer. Over 1,750 participants from 93 countries attended the conference. What I find particularly interesting about the SIOP meeting is that in addition to the usual biology research content, there are also sessions on psychosocial issues that our kids face. Virtual all of the attendees are pediatric oncology researchers and industry partners. Another interesting feature of this conference is the inclusion of sessions related to Lower & Middle Income (LMIC) countries. It’s shocking how low the survival rates are for kids in LMICs.
NYDM
Last night, I traveled to NYC to introduce Andrew and The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation to over 500 new sorority members at New York University. NYDM is one of our largest college events amongst our 75 across the country. Thank you NYDM Executive Board for inviting me.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Proclamation
As we come to the end of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I would like to thank Dover (DE) Mayor Robin Christiansen and the Dover City Council for honoring The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation and our childhood cancer community with an official proclamation.
FTKickoff
FTK, a common expression within our community, means FOR THE KIDS. At the University of Delaware football game last Saturday, our UDance partners hosted FTKickoff. Our B+ Heroes were recognized on the field and a lot of awareness was generated to remind everyone that KIDS GET CANCER TOO.

St. Mary Magdalen
I was so tremendously honored to be invited to speak at St. Mary Magdalen School (SMM) (Wilmington, DE) this past Tuesday. Why was this so special? SMM is Ali & Andrew’s alma mater. Speaking with the students while looking at a large, permanent sign on the wall honoring Andrew was so emotional for me. Another thing that was so special was that this talk was initiated by an 8th grade student (Lizzie). Thank you to the SMM community.
