Sack Childhood Cancer
Notre Dame defensive linemen, Francis Brewu and Keon Keeley have joined The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation to SACK CHILDHOOD CANCER. Please see how you can join Francis & Keon to put a sack on the board and help our kids. Last Friday, Francis & Keon met two of our B+ Heroes, Madison and A’Myis.
Children’s Oncology Group
The annual meeting of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) was held last week in Chicago. Ninety percent of kids treated for cancer in the U.S. are treated at COG hospitals. The COG includes children’s hospitals from the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Approximately 2,000 clinicians (and a few people like me) gathered to discuss the latest clinical trials across the broad range of children’s cancers.
I was honored to go on stage to present the Dr. Peter Adamson Young Investigator (YI) Award. This award, funded by B+, honors Peter, the previous Chair of COG and a good friend of mine. Over the past 20 years, Peter has taught me that we need to develop bench strength by supporting YIs. These young investigators are very impressive people who have accomplished a lot, but still need additional assistance. A YI is not someone in their 20’s, but rather in their late 30’s or 40’s.
I also had the opportunity to have lunch with a tremendously interesting person named Dr. Julius Thomas (see below). Julius was a two-time NFL Pro Bowl tight end with the Denver Broncos and has transitioned post-NFL into a career as a clinical psychologist. (I’m feeling pretty small in these 3 pictures!)
Successful Golf Outing
Thank you very much to everyone who supported our 20th Annual B+ Golf Outing, Dinner, and Auction. We grossed over $110,000 and I think everyone had a really good day.
Make it a great week.
