B+ Hero Wilder
“There have been so many moments lately when we’ve wondered how we were going to make everything work”. This is the sentiment of so many families who face the unthinkable diagnosis of childhood cancer with the other challenges of life. In the note below from Wilder’s family, the family is also dealing with the unexpected job loss for Dad. Yes, you are helping to keep a roof over the head of an immunocompromised child and his family, but your support is SO much more. You are throwing a lifeline of hope and love to a very desperate family. When we all do a little, we can accomplish so much. Thank you!
“The $2,400 toward our mortgage is an incredible blessing, especially during such an overwhelming time in our lives.
Between Wilder’s ongoing leukemia treatment, my husband’s unexpected job loss, and the challenges our family is facing, there have been so many moments lately when we’ve wondered how we were going to make everything work. Your generosity has lifted a tremendous weight off our shoulders and given us some much-needed breathing room.
Joe, I also want to express how deeply sorry I am for the loss of your son, Andrew. Knowing that you’ve turned such unimaginable heartbreak into something that brings hope and relief to other families makes this gift even more meaningful. I wish no family ever had to experience childhood cancer, but I’m incredibly grateful that people like you are helping families through it.
I’ve attached a photo of our family because I wanted you to see the faces behind the assistance you’ve provided. Wilder is our silly, snuggly, dinosaur- and monster-truck-loving little boy with the biggest smile, and despite everything he’s endured, he continues to bring so much joy to our lives. I will also complete the About Me survey, and you’re welcome to share our appreciation and family photo with your donors and supporters. I hope they know that their generosity truly makes a difference in the lives of families like ours.
Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts, for helping us during one of the hardest seasons of our lives. We will never forget the kindness you’ve shown our family.”
Vote!
In the nearly 20 years of offering financial assistance to families of kids with cancer, I have NEVER asked the applicant family for their political party affiliation. If there is one non-partisan issue in the world, it should be protecting the lives of our innocent children.
So, this is not a political comment, but a civic duty comment. In America, we have the right to vote. Exercise your right and let your voice be heard. I wish my son lived long enough to have voted even one time.
