Unless you’ve been there, you have no idea what it’s like praying and waiting for the visit from the doctor informing you that there’s a match on the Bone Marrow Registry for your loved one. We were fortunate, in that Ali was a 6 for 6 perfect match for Andrew, but most people are not fortunate enough to have a match within their family.
For that reason, we MUST significantly increase the rolls of the Bone Marrow Registry. To that end, there are two upcoming bone marrow drives that I would like to make you aware of.
The first is sponsored by A.I. duPont Hospital and will be held on Tuesday, May 6th from Noon-4pm in Classroom #1 (3rd Floor) at the hospital. It’s the easiest thing in the world…a simple swab of your mouth; no blood taken. Unfortunately, there is a small cost ($25) that the Registry charges to process your sample. Because there is a shortage of minorities on the Registry, there is no charge for minority registrants. Twenty five dollars, but you might very well save a life…I think that’s a good deal.
The second drive is being held in honor of Joey Borowski, a brave young man fighting leukemia. Joey’s drive will be held on May 10th from Noon-3pm at the Coeburn Elementary School on Coeburn Blvd in Brookhaven, PA. There is no cost to register, so please come out and join the Registry. You may not be a match for Joey, but you may save the life of another precious youngster or adult.
