A Whole Lot To Cover!

I’m sorry that it’s been a little while since I’ve posted. The summer has been busy here at The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.

In Memoriam

To start off on a sad note, B+ Hero Victoria Marsh passed away last month at the age of 19. Victoria was such a sweet young lady who fought osteosarcoma (bone cancer) for nearly 7 years. I have so many great memories of hanging out with Victoria at UDance, in DC on our lobbying visits, at our New Year’s Eve party (see picture), at our Wilmington Classic ice hockey game, and so much more. My life was truly enriched knowing Victoria and she will never be forgotten. Please keep the Marsh family in your prayers.

“Survivorship”

People often think that once a child completes chemo, they’re “all done” or “all better.” Nothing could be farther from the truth. You just cannot put a young, developing body through this kind of harsh treatment and expect there not to be long-term side effects. Sometimes the side effects are visible, physical issues, but oftentimes, they are unseen emotional and physical issues. I ask for your prayers today for B+ Hero Danny Feltwell. Danny is 12 years old and was diagnosed with cancer at 2. I’ve known Danny virtually his entire life. Danny does not have a cell of cancer in his body, but he has battled Graft vs Host (GVHD) following his bone marrow transplant and so many issues resulting from his treatment. He has been in and out of the hospital for the last past decade…literally. He is very ill right now and in-patient at A.I. duPont Hospital. He’s making progress and was just recently moved out of the PICU. Here’s a picture that his Dad posted. Bottom line- we MUST develop kinder and gentler treatments for our kids!

15th Annual B+ 5k

Because of Covid, we moved our Summer 5k once again this year to the Fall. On Saturday morning, Oct. 30th (9:30am), we’ll be gathering at the new Abessinio Stadium across the street from Andrew’s school, Salesianum. With nearly 100 degree temperatures here in Delaware, I know it feels like Fall is a million months away. But, it’s not. Please get your team together or sign up as an individual here. Remember to send out the solicitation email as that is how we really raise money for the kids at this event. Thank you.

15th Annual B+ Golf Outing

If you – or anyone you know – would like to join us as a Sponsor, Golfer, or Dinner Guest, please visit our events page to register. Our event this year will be held on Monday, Oct. 4th. Thank you.

“Motivational Mondays”

We have a quick, and valuable (I think) opportunity for you.  For the past several years, we send out a “Motivational Monday” email to our college student partners.  This email highlights a family that we helped, it includes their backstory and their note of appreciation.  It’s a really nice way to start your week.  Now, we’d like to offer this jolt of positivity to non-students as well.  If you’d like to be added to the distribution list, please enter your information here.

B+ Nation, thank you very much for your continued support!

P.S.  Thank you all for the kind words and prayers a few weeks back as we observed the difficult 14th anniversary of my son’s passing.
